What is collagen-induction therapy?
Microneedling uses fine needles to make controlled punctures in the skin. The healing response stimulates collagen production, which is why the procedure is also called collagen-induction therapy.
It may improve the appearance of certain acne scars, fine lines, and uneven skin texture. Suitability depends on your concern, skin assessment, and the device’s intended use. Results vary and develop gradually; a series of treatments may be recommended.
Let’s talk about your skin goals
Texture
Discuss roughness or uneven texture and the changes you would like to see in your skin’s appearance.
Acne scars
Ask whether your type of scarring is appropriate for microneedling and how other approaches compare.
Fine lines
Explore realistic improvement, the expected timeline, and how treatment might fit your existing skincare routine.
A clear plan from the start
1. Consultation: Review your concerns, medical history, medications, and previous skin procedures. Confirm whether microneedling is appropriate.
2. Treatment discussion: Ask which device is used, who performs the procedure, how comfort is managed, and which areas are included.
3. Personalized aftercare: Request written instructions for cleansing, products, makeup, sun protection, and activities after your appointment.
4. Progress review: Agree on when to assess changes and discuss any further visits only after reviewing your response.
Give your skin time to recover
Redness, tightness, discomfort, swelling, peeling, and minor bleeding or bruising can occur. Infection, scarring, and lasting changes in skin color are possible. Recovery depends on the procedure and your skin; follow your treating professional’s instructions.
Discuss active acne or infection, a history of unusual scarring, healing problems, and current medications before treatment. Ask when to restart your usual skincare products. Do not change prescribed medication without your prescribing clinician’s guidance.
Microneedling questions
Is standard microneedling the same as RF microneedling?
No. RF microneedling adds radiofrequency energy and has a different risk profile, including reported serious complications. This page focuses on standard microneedling. Confirm exactly which procedure is proposed during your consultation.
When will I see results?
Changes appear gradually as collagen develops, often over weeks to months. Your treating professional can explain the expected timeline for your concern. No particular result is guaranteed.
How many appointments will I need?
Ask for an individual recommendation based on your goals, skin assessment, and response. Confirm the proposed schedule, total estimate, and follow-up before starting.
Does treatment include PRP or special serums?
Do not assume add-ons are included. The FDA has not cleared microneedling devices for use with other products. Discuss the evidence, risks, and alternatives for any proposed combination.
Is it suitable for my skin tone?
Ask for an individual evaluation, including your history of pigmentation changes. Skin tone alone does not replace an assessment of your health, skin condition, and the specific device.
What is the cost, and where is my appointment?
